Additional investment for Abu Dhabi BT innovation centre
An agreement offering additional funding to a BT innovation centre in Abu Dhabi has been overseen by His Highness Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Etisalat BT Innovation Centre (EBTIC) is based at Khalifa University to create strong links between industry and the academic world with a focus on innovation and invention.
The centre has been awarded an extra £12 million from the United Arab Emirates government. The funding will be used over the next five years for more research and development projects.
Dr Tim Whitley, head of research for BT, and a member of EBTIC board, said: “EBTIC‘s drive for excellence and value creation has been demonstrated by filing patents on 30 inventions, publishing over 180 scientific papers, being recognised by a number of technology awards, and successfully transferring and supplying technology solutions into BT and Etisalat.
“The quality of EBTIC’s research has been recognised by the ICT Fund and the support that it is receiving is a testimony to EBTIC’s significant achievements.”
The agreement was signed on 18 November and Dr. Arif Al Hammadi, executive vice-president of Khalifa University, who signed the agreement on behalf of EBTIC, said the additional support for the EBTIC serves as a testament to the centre’s achievements.
