Diversity & Inclusion

At BT we know it's crucial that our people reflect the diversity of our customers from around the world. And we know that having people from all walks of life makes us a more creative and innovative company. That variety of experience, culture and background allows our teams to truly use the power of communication to make a better world, giving everyone products and services which actually make a difference in their lives.

We make sure we do whatever we can to support our people too: making them feel valued and included and unlocking their potential is essential. We're incredibly proud that two of our leaders appear in the Green Park Top 100 Influential BAME (black, Asian and minority ethnicities) Business Leaders 2016 list, and that some of our female leaders have recently received Women of the Future, Everywoman in Technology and Rising Stars in Technology awards.

What's more, our people are able to connect through our people networks. Everyone can join our gender equality, ethnicity, LGBT+, ability, faith and carers' networks – they offer support and let the business know what's important to them so we can improve and develop the whole business.

We work really closely with some industry leading partners, such as Business Disability Forum (BDF) - in fact both BT and our EE businesses have a BDF 'disability smart' silver standard award. So we really make the most of their know-how as well as share our own best practice with like-minded companies.

We've seen some of our innovations, like our Disability and Carers Passports which help our people move around BT, used by other companies to improve their employees' lives as well. We're a founding partner of the Working Forward campaign, where our Maternity Handbook has been showcased as best practice. We've also pledged our commitment to making working conditions better for pregnant women and new mums. And our employee volunteering programme brings us together with our local communities.

Our LGBT+ Allies programme

We want to create an environment where LGBT+ people feel comfortable being open about who they are. That's why we have an LGBT+ allies programme. It's a way for people to show they want their colleagues to know they're working somewhere that embraces difference.

An ally is an advocate, evangelist, supporter and friend. Someone that stands up for their colleagues and helps to create a working environment where LGBT+ people feel included and accepted.

Have a look at our film to hear BT people from all over the world talk about how important the allies programme is for them.

In short, BT is a place where we value difference and we work really hard to be a great place to work, for everyone.
